Searching in CQ Federal: General Search

CQ Federal houses tons of useful data and information. Sometimes, half the trouble is finding what you're looking for. That's where searching comes in. This article will cover how to locate content in CQ Federal either through general search.

Where is General Search?

The general search bar is always located at the top right of your CQ Federal page, regardless of where you are on the platform. Please note that this search only applies to the current Congress. If you're looking for bills, members, votes, or other information from previous Congresses, be sure to use the advanced search option.

What is General Search?

General search is designed to help you quickly find members, bills and votes.

How do I conduct a General Search?

If you know the number of the bill or the name of the member or number of the vote you're looking for, simply type it into the search bar and make sure to pause in order to let the search auto-populate (this is much easier than clicking the magnifying glass). See below.

Even if you don't know the exact member name or bill or vote number, you can always search by keywords (such as the the title of the bill or any word in the bill title, etc).
